Tattoo Aftercare
What you should do after getting a tattoo
- The tattoo derm (second skin) applied should be left on for at least 24 hours up to a maximum of 4 days. It is waterproof but still allows the tattoo to breathe, facilitating the healing process. In rare cases, you may have an allergic reaction to the film – just remove and proceed to the next step.
- After 1-4 days you can remove the film and wash with mild, soapy water. You can apply an unscented, alcohol free lotion such as Lubriderm if your tattoo feels tight/itchy.
- Stay out of sunlight and tanning booths until your tattoo is healed, at least 7-10 days.
- Do not soak your new tattoo in tub, sauna, Jacuzzi or go swimming while it is healing. Showers are fine; dab dry immediately.
- Do not rub or pick the area while it is healing. Colour loss and/or infection could occur.
- Extreme sun and exposure over the years can and will fade your tattoo. This can be minimized by using a strong sunscreen, at least SPF25.
- Your tattoo should fully heal in 3-4 weeks. Consult a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as the following: redness at site, green/yellow discharge (foul smelling) and/or fever.
- Touch-ups are complimentary within a year after the tattoo was completed but will only be done after it has fully healed.
